DEPARTMENT OF VALEOLOGY

History of the Department

Systematic research in valeology at V./ N/ Karazin Kharkiv National University is initiated by the Interschool Research Valeology Lab established in 1997 under the guidance of Doctor of Biology M. Honcharenko (now- laboratory research supervisor) by Order No. 26 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in view of implementation of the National Program “Children of Ukraine” (Order No. 63/96 as of January 18, 1996). It becomes the first scientific institution in Ukraine created (as it is mentioned in the Order) “to diagnose children’s health depending on their places of residence and environment, to eliminate the ecological imbalance using herbal drugs, to promote healthy lifestyle, and to restore mental, physical, and spiritual health.”

Using the conceptually new basis and modern achievements in valeology, the Laboratory starts creating and establishing a system of unconventional methods for complex rehabilitation of children, youth, and adults (Research Paper “Developing and Creating a System of Continuous Valeological Education and Complex Rehabilitation of Pre-School and School-Age Children and Students”, 1997-2000“.

Valeological education at the University begins in 1999 after the Department of Valeology headed by Professor M. Honcharenko is established at the School of Post-Qualifying Education (Order No. 2401—1/103 as of September 29, 1999). The Interschool Research Valeology Lab becomes the scientific basis of the Department of Valeology. The Department is created according to the Regulation of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (No. 1464 as of March 05, 1998) and the letter of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (No. 1239 as of November 23, 1998) on obligatory introduction of the “Human Health” course to secondary educational institutions and means of implementation of the National Concept of educational humanitarization and valeological education of youth. This Department is the first Department of Valeology in classical universities in Ukraine.
